About Montrose and the PTA

The Montrose Early Childhood Center opened its doors in November 2015 after an extensive remodel of an old elementary school. The yearlong renovation restored the 1928 building to its former glory and added many new features to accommodate preschoolers.  While the district had provided preschool services to the community for nearly 30 years, classes were scattered throughout the two towns and focused mainly on the needs of children with special needs.  The MECC gave the district the opportunity to broaden its scope and include children from across the community in a setting with a play-based curriculum that meets the needs of a wide variety of learners.

The district adopted a nationally recognized, state-approved curriculum called “Tools of the Mind.” The central focus of this curriculum is the development of cognitive and social-emotional self-regulation at the same time that academic skills are being taught.

The Montrose Early Childhood Center PTA fosters communication between parents, teachers, the school, and school district to enhance our students’ success. We organize community-building events and enrichment activities like school-wide playdates, in-school field trips, and educational seminars for parents. The goal of our PTA is to ensure ALL our students have the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
